She is related to an English essayist, Virginia Woolf, her Great Auntie. Her father, Cecil Woolf, was the last person to have known and recalled her uncle Leonard and aunt Virginia.
Her father used to speak about his contacts with her aunts, uncle, and other Bloomsbury Group members.
Emma revealed that her distant aunt, Virginia suffered from anorexia Nervosa. She made a Journal detailing her efforts to overcome her eating disorder, which she was able to do after viewing photos of Virginia Woolf from 1932.
